Making presentations to promote your business

The number one fear in America is still speaking in front of a group. With all the dangers in the world it almost seems silly, but I can tell you that even after years of speaking in front of groups, I still get butterflies. Does it take time and effort? Yes! But is it good for business? Absolutely! Every time I do a program I can count on least one new piece of business, if not more, just by letting folks know what is available in marketing.

What can you do to make it part of your marketing plan? Start by determining what you enjoy speaking about. Then make sure you have a great program by using the checklist below. Next, determine what kind of groups would have an interest in your topic. Then start making inquiries and booking dates or start planning your own seminar.

Program Checklist:
__What’s in it for them? What will you talk about that they want to know more about? People like stories and samples of how they can use what you are speaking about to better themselves or their business.
___What can you give them so they walk away knowing what you do? Handouts or great way to keep on track with your talk and a great way for your audience take something away from the program. Make sure to include your logo and web site in case they would like to contact you, some people also include their social addresses from twitter, facebook ect. If you have a book or publication or product that would be of interest to this group, this is a perfect time to promote it.
___Use what you are comfortable with. I use web based programs that often are the topic of discussion. I never know if the connection will be up, slow or work with my thumb drive, so I always prepare to do my program without the computer and I just feel lucky if it actually is working and I can use it for examples.
___Take deep breaths. After so many years, I still talk too fast because I feel the need to try get all the ideas out asap. Some people enjoy that it is fast paced, but others are overwhelmed by the information, so I am still working on this.
___Make sure there is time for Q and A
___Have a give away item to raffle at the end of the program.
___Ask for feedback by providing an evaluation form after your program.

Good Luck and get speaking!
