From Guest Blogger- Trenton Business Association
Finally, going “green” and recycling is getting some good attention from businesses, communities and individuals. However, there hasn’t been much talk about recycling money . . . until now.
The Trenton Business Association is dedicated to promoting its members and the Trenton Community through sponsorship of community programs, networking meetings and developing business relationships. One of the ways we’ve been working to help improve our community in these difficult financial times is by adopting a “Shop Local, Save Local, Support Local” program. We believe so much in the importance of this that we incorporated the saying into our logo. We want to encourage you to join us by recycling your money . . . right back into our community to help strengthen and improve it. Here’s how:
Studies have shown that money spent local – stays local. When you do business with a locally owned store, restaurant or service provider, 68% of every dollar stays within our community. However, when you do business with a “big box” retailer, restaurant or service provider, only 43% of your dollar stays within the community. Locally owned businesses bring tax revenues back to the community and they spend their dollars in the community. Simply put, if you had a relative that owned a local business, you’d probably support it as much as possible to help them grow. In essence, we “own” the community of Trenton and everything we do to bring money to it will help strengthen it.
Next time you decide to dine out, or purchase an item or service, think about using a locally owned business right in our community or a neighboring community instead of a “big box” company. When you do, it will help every resident in Trenton via a healthier and more prosperous community; with increased property values, better schools, and great feeling and sense of pride about where we live.
Thanks in advance for making a conscious decision to help Trenton continue to be the best community in the downriver area!
