Back in the 1990’s not many businesses had fax machines. By the end of the decade your business was a relic if it didn’t have one. Whether you know it now or not a well produced commercial video for your business is going to become a necessity. Being without any business video will soon be equivalent to not having a website; it will be as necessary as it used to be to have a listing in the Yellow Pages. Some things just evolve into necessity. Some still don’t think it is important to have a company video, we plan to make a new video every quarter in our businesses, plus have committed to covering more live streaming events. I’ll let you judge for yourself.
The comScore Video Metrix service says more than 173-million viewers watched an average of 187 videos during the month of January 2010. Google Sites, driven primarily by video viewing at YouTube.com, ranked as the top online video content property in February 2016 with 182.2 million unique viewers. Facebook ranked #2 with 81.1 million viewers, followed by Yahoo Sites with 58.2 million, BroadbandTV with 45.3 million and VEVO with 44.2 million.
New this year to Facebook is live streaming video which allows user to be live at an event or program and then the video stays on the site for viewing after the program. Several things happen with live streaming, people in the area can see what your doing and flock to say a tournament within a festival or in bound fans of your page can now view the football game or homecoming parade if they can make it out.
Search engine optimization is actually the most obvious reason why you need video in your marketing scheme. So when you type into the search bar that which you seek and then click the search button the algorithms in Google or whatever site you may be using for your search heavily favor video as the answer to your query.
It is getting more cost effective to produce quality video. Generally a full 1-2 minute commercial shot and produced video is still going to cost you a few thousand dollars. But alternatives exist, including slide show video production. Facebook will even create a slideshow for you based on your pictures of the day and Google photos will do the same. The newest phones have ability to edit and enhance and post without even touching your laptop. Get out there and take some video today for your business!

I learned a valuable lesson a few years ago that I hope will help my fellow friends and clients. If you use your web site in a manner to host valuable information (who doesn’t?), do you have a plan in place in case you are hacked or hijacked by a domain host?
The bad news was our site that was getting 3000 hits a day prior to the festival I was marketing and was shut down on the eve of our Friday night festivities. The company that took us hostage over a silly billing error pointed it to a New Jersey site and immediately took our #1 ranking as well. The good news was that as soon as I was made aware of the situation, I was able to take these steps to regain our position in searches because we had an active You Tube channel Twitter account and Facebook page.
Ok, so many businesses still do not have an updated video or commercial about their business. Even so, I say grab your YouTube Channel URL before someone else does! If you have a g-mail account you already have one started. Google has made it easy to make your g-mail, documents, Youtube and Google+ account all accessible by the same user and password.
Once you establish your account make sure you add lots of your keywords and include your web site or blog url in the title so people can find you easily. Even if you don’t have a business video, start searching! If there is a certain message you agree with on another video, or if you are part of franchise or just want to help other businesses, you can simple click “add to playlist” and the video will be added to the playlist on your channel.
You could create several playlists within your account. For example we have a Client video playlist (a collection of videos we’ve created for clients), a Market Insights playlist (our own commercials and promotions) and a Community playlist (of our charities and other interesting community thing we are involved with).
A contractor (for example) could add a playlist for roofing, decks, plumbing ect. to show clients how they can help by referring to other videos that are already out there.
Once you are ready you can start uploading your own videos, that you can make yourself on your phone or hire a professional, but for now, claim your channel name, search You Tube and build your video archives.
